Loss, Resilience and Spiritual Transformation

Loss is a universal human experience.  How we deal with significant losses defines us.  Loss affects the ways in which we accommodate our past, live out our relationships in the present, and create our future.  For some people loss triggers processes of mourning that lead toward spiritual growth, or growth in faith, while for others loss exacerbates or diminishes growth.  What factors contribute to growth and transformation?  Are there identifiable phases in the process of mourning and transformation?  What factors facilitate this?

In this workshop, we will (1) describe current effective models for dealing with loss; (2) examine those factors that contribute to growth and spiritual transformation in the wake of loss, (3) discover ways in which to facilitate this transformational work with others, and, if desired (4) explore Christian biblical and theological understandings of transformation of loss and faith.
