After Teaching a Class on Eating Disorders

The down vest and baggy pants

hiding

meager bones hinged together

as if by chance.

And then

the drawn taught face and sunken eyes

revealing

pain upon shame.

And yet again

abundant hips and ample thighs

spilling

over the lips of chairs

rippling into pools of self-loathing.

"It's only a matter of will power!" he judged.

What else didn't the student notice

there in plain view?
